MBA Thesis titled “Incubators in the New
Economy”
Biography
O. Mac Chinsomboon has done extensive research into the incubator and venture capital market segment and has released a study that is available on the Internet, the first of it’s kind (released May 16, 2000). Though a recent MBA graduate, Mac has become an established name and resource in the seed-VC/incubator landscape, and has been contacted by major industry publications, as well as consulting, research, and investment banking firms, seeking his opinions on the state and future of the industry.
Mac has nine years of experience as an engineer, management consultant, entrepreneurial founder and technology investment banker; spanning exposure to the highest executive levels within numerous Fortune 500 companies as well as having experienced the rigors of an entrepreneurial startup. Mac’s career includes having been a Flight Simulator Engineer at the United Airlines’ Flight Center, as well as having spent five years with Andersen Consulting (AC) as a Manager in the growing showcase AC Silicon Valley (Palo Alto) office in the telecommunications consulting practice (clients included AT&T, MCI, Pacific Bell, Roadway, Phillip Morris, Great Western Bank, AVCO Financial, Capital Group - American Funds, and others). Post AC, Mac co-founded an Internet web design venture in San Francisco and then a technology strategy management consultancy in Asia (based in Bangkok, Thailand). While studying at MIT Sloan, Mac spent time in London working for Warburg Dillon Read, a global investment bank, in their Mergers and Acquisitions and Internet/Media investment banking practices. Mac is a founding member of the MIT Technology Wireless Interest Group (WIG), and has participated in executive development for premier professional organizations (e.g. YPO). Mac holds a B.S. (1990) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and an MBA From the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Mac is pursuing additional research and tinkering with the idea of possibly combing it all into a book. In the meantime, Mac has been advising international venture capitalists, other financial institutions, startups, entrepreneurs, and professional services firms (in the US, Europe, and Asia) on incubator/early-stage venturing and other related investor/entrepreneurial strategies.
